Hey guys, welcome to my blog; I'm lulu from Nigeria, please feel free to like, share and subscribe to my blog.
So as you can see from the blog title, some of us aren't lucky to know what or who we want to become, for some they knew what they've always wanted to do and become right from childhood while for others they're clueless; this inspired me to do this blog.
I personally, when it was time for me to go to college (university) I wasn't sure of what I wanted. Back then at high school I was very sure I had no business been in the science department because I've always been more passionate about Arts, my favourite subject then was English and literature, as a matter of fact I'd had dreams of becoming an actress or even a musician even if my dad wanted me to become a Doctor. The funny thing about me becoming an actress was that I was a very shy person, I could act or play roles, sing and dance inside my house but no audience please...(lol).
Now gaining admission into the university I chose to study Human Resource Management. NB choosing this course I had no clue on what it was about, I just felt well it seemed nice, I could get a white collar job in any given organization.
So while you might be thinking or considering your friends choice of course to study, or what your parents think you should study you might want to consider doing this instead.
Before I talk about this though, you might want to know Why you want to further your education at the university because unlike developed countries, in third world countries once you round up high school we believe its the next step to take "Going to the University". There's nothing wrong with this in my opinion, I mean there's nothing wrong with furthering your education, the only challenge there is, is the motive behind it, People shouldn't go through the university for the sake of acquiring a certificate and been called a graduate but for the purpose of increasing ones skills, knowledge, IQ and capacity geared towards a successful given career path or field.
I remember my college years, a lot of us would say " I can't wait to graduate, I'm tired of school."
Fact is when you have a set goal and going through school for the right reasons and for a course you're intrigued about, its difficult to get bored of learning, as a matter of fact you're anticipating rounding up with school because you can't wait to venture into that field of career professionally and make your impact.
Look around you or better still the world at large, what do you think you can study to make it a better a place, I mean, I wish someone had told me this when I was opting for a course to study. Back then in highschool girls who opted for science courses were considered daring because we the art or social science students felt it was quite difficult to study or its for the male gender. This is a wrong reason to dismiss the idea of going for a course of study,
One perspective people or parents have on furthering education at the university is how much can be made from a choice of career, well there are doctors who makes lots of money from their field whilst there are some who doesn't, there are wealthy successful lawyers and there are also struggling to pay the bills lawyers so don't opt for this reason also.
Points to consider choosing a course to study at the university
1) Passion or Interest: this cannot be overemphasized; its important to be enthusiastic about your choice of course of study, if you don't have the slightest interest in the career path you tend to follow the tendency of been successful at it is quite unrealistic.
2) Let the need of society and the world at large drive you: Gone are the days when people should go to school, make good grades in order to land a good job. For example you decide to study medicine because you really want to save lives, you hear stories of pregnant women dying in delivery rooms or in your locality people are still dying of maleria when other developed countries has passed these stage and focusing on more complex health issues, this alone should drive you or you choose to become an architect to design beautiful buildings that'd make your city standout (disclaimer) I'm not saying limit your work to your environment alone, my point is that thinking beyond yourselves and instead looking forward to make the world a better place has given rise to the most successful people in their chosen career path.
